Quick guide to text cases

Title case vs capitalize words

Capitalize Words capitalizes every single word. Title Case follows headline rules, so small words such as of, and, the and in usually stay lower case unless they start the title.

Sentence case vs title case

Sentence case reads like normal prose, with a capital only at the start of each sentence. Many modern style guides prefer it for headings and interface text because it is easier to read.

Underline and strikethrough

These two tools add Unicode combining characters to each letter, so the line stays with the text when you copy it into a bio, post or chat. They are real characters, not formatting.

Basic text tools FAQ

What are basic text tools?

Basic text tools are simple converters that change how your text looks without changing what it says. They include case converters such as upper case, lower case, title case and sentence case, plus style tools such as underline and strikethrough.

What is the difference between title case and capitalize words?

Capitalize Words makes the first letter of every word a capital letter. Title Case follows headline style, so small words such as of, and, the and in usually stay lower case unless they start the title.

What is sentence case?

Sentence case capitalizes only the first letter of each sentence and leaves the rest in lower case, the way normal prose is written.

How do I change capital letters to lower case?

Paste your text into the Lower Case tool and every capital letter is converted to lower case instantly. Then copy the result.

What does invert case do?

Invert Case swaps every letter to its opposite case, so capitals become lower case and lower case letters become capitals. For example, Hello becomes hELLO.

What is alternate case used for?

Alternate case switches between lower and upper case letter by letter, like hElLo. It is mostly used for jokes, memes and playful social media posts.

Can I underline or strike through text where there is no formatting button?

Yes. The Underline and Strikethrough tools add Unicode combining characters to each letter, so the line travels with the text when you copy and paste it into bios, posts and chats.

Are these tools free and is my text private?

Yes. All tools are free, need no account, and run in your browser, so the text you enter is not uploaded to a server.
